Do you know how to add, subtract, and multiply fractions?
Adding / Subtracting Fractions:
First, you find the common
denominator by multiplying the top and the bottom by the same number. When you add or subtract, you always keep the
denominator the same. You have to simplify
by dividing the top and bottom by the same number.
Multiplying Fractions:
When you are multiplying
fractions, you never have to find the common denominator. Sometimes, you have to convert a mixed number
into an improper fraction (multiply, then add).
You must cross cancel vertically (down) or diagonally. Multiply the fractions across. Simplify if you can.
