Fractions Check-Up
Do you know how to add, subtract, and multiply fractions?
Adding / Subtracting Fractions:
First, you find the common
denominator by multiplying the top and the bottom by the same number. When you add or subtract, you always keep the
denominator the same. You have to simplify
by dividing the top and bottom by the same number.
Multiplying Fractions:
When you are multiplying
fractions, you never have to find the common denominator. Sometimes, you have to convert a mixed number
into an improper fraction (multiply, then add).
You must cross cancel vertically (down) or diagonally. Multiply the fractions across. Simplify if you can.

Combining Like Terms
Good morning, students! Today, you will be practicing how to combine like terms.
Vocabulary you need to know:
constant: any number (ex: 3, 5, 7, 3.14, 1/2, etc...)
variable: any letter (x, y, m, z, etc...)
coefficient: the number in front of a variable in a term (5x, 6y, 14c, etc...)
term: a number times a letter (3x, -5y, 1/2z, etc...)
LIKE TERMS are terms that have the same variable raised to the same power (same exponent).
Example 1:
| 7x | x | -2x |
These are all like terms because the variables are all x
Example 2:
| (1/3)xy2 | -2xy2 | 6xy2 |
These are all like terms because the variables are all xy2
Read through this tutorial FIRST:
Then, play these game to practice finding like terms:
Like Terms Quartet (use the up, down, left, right arrows)
Like Terms Invaders
Good luck!
HOMEWORK:

#21 - 30 (optional)

One and Two Step Equations Review
Good morning, students! Today we will be reviewing one and two step equations. You will have a TWO STEP EQUATION ASSESSMENT on Friday!
Start by doing a quick math warm-up:
Choose your workout type and time: 2 minutes to 5 minutes
http://www.mathsisfun.com/numbers/math-trainer-multiply.html
If you still need help with 2-step equations, review this tutorial:
http://www.coolmath.com/algebra/06-solving-equations/04-solving-equations-part3-01.htm
Now test yourself by seeing how many equations you can solve in one minute. Can you beat your own high score?
http://www.vectorkids.com/vkvariable.htm
Challenge! Weigh the whangdoodles using your math skills!
http://www.mathplayground.com/wangdoodles.html
If you finish, you may visit any other site from my blog. Good luck and Happy Learning!
Homework: Do the EVENS (2, 4, 6, etc...) or ODDS (1, 3, 5, etc...) on the EQUATIONS WORKSHEET.

Solving 2-step Equations
Good morning, students! Today, we will be solving two-step equations.
Remember, equations are all about balance. You have to do the same thing to both sides of your equation. Both sides of the equation must be EQUAL or the same.
1. How to solve 2-step equations!
Check out this explanation online about how to solve two-step equations:
http://www.coolmath.com/algebra/06-solving-equations/04-solving-equations-part3-01.htm
2. Keep it balanced!
Here is a great way to model what those algebraic equations really mean. You can choose one or two step equations depending on what you want to practice. You can solve problems step by step or practice on your own!
